Why are there blank scores in Culture Profile results?

Friday Pulse records every response a participant gives, even if someone doesn’t complete the full question flow. If a participant answers some questions but stops part way through, the answers already given still count - but there may not be enough data to generate groups scores for later topic areas.

Heatmap with missing scores

Occasionally you may spot blank scores for a team part way through the Culture Profile, or a team Happiness score without any Culture Profile results. This happens when some participants begin answering questions but do not finish the whole set.

Exploring response rates

There are two main response rates in Friday Pulse

  • Pulse: Your weekly or monthly response rate is based on how many participants respond to the Happiness question.
  • Culture Profile: Your quarterly response rate is based on how many participants respond to the first Culture Profile question — Team relationships.

Admin, Analyst and Senior leader users can see response rates for different teams on the Participation report. These users can also see response rates for each team and topic by hovering over a score on Reporting pages, such as the Heatmap.

Each topic, such as Happiness, Team relationships and Accomplishment have their own score page which can be accessed by clicking on the score on the different reporting pages. On the score page, you can see the response rates for that particular topic.

Why people stop responding

It’s uncommon for users to stop part way through the Culture Profile, usually only 1–2% of participants. You can spot this if the response rate for the first Culture Profile question (Team relationships) is higher than for the final one (Accomplishment). There are different reasons why someone might not complete all the questions. Most often participants are distracted by other priorities, but sometimes they may reach a question they don’t feel comfortable answering and choose not to continue.

Where there is a difference between Pulse and Culture Profile response rates, it’s likely that participants answered the Happiness question directly from their email, Slack, or MS Teams invite, but did not continue to the full set of questions in their web browser. This explains why you may sometimes see a team Happiness score without any Culture Profile results.
